NEURAL COMMUNICATION AND ITS REGULATION AT SYNAPSES

We are interested in studying the  Neuron and Synapses which shape and guide the processes of the Brain. Our long-term goal is to understand underlying mechanism of How neurons communicate each other through Synapses.


Our major questions in research

  • How neurons are connected in networks

  • How they communicate with each other once connected

  • How disease alters this basic functionality.

Live-cell trace for synaptic physiology

synaptic vesicle fusion and retrieval using pHluorin based assay, Calcium sensor, and other fluorescence sensor combined with high-fidelity custom-built microscope system

HIGH FIDELITY LIVE IMAGING

To monitor  synaptic physiology with high accuracy, 
We utilize a custom-built laser illuminating imaging system.
It leads us to observe various synaptic events from a single synaptic vesicle at the millisecond scale.
